After the special exhibition Ghosts and Hells: The underworld in Asian art, a collaboration with the Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, Tainan Art Museum presents another international collaboration with the Canadian Indigenous Art Centre: the Persistence/Resistance: Taiwan – Canada Indigenous Art Exhibition. Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che, Canadian Trade Office Director Martin Laflamme, and guests all attended the exhibition’s opening ceremony held on Sep. 8.

Mayor Huang Wei-che expressed that this joint project showcases the diverse and rich culture and history of indigenous peoples in Taiwan and Canada. It also discusses major issues such as transitional justice, reconciliation, and the preservation and transition of indigenous culture. Huang hopes that the public can visit the exhibition in Tainan and appreciate the artistic value as well as the history and culture behind the exhibits.

Jointly hosted by the Tainan Art Museum and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei, the Persistence/Resistance: Taiwan – Canada Indigenous Art Exhibition is the first event of the Canada-Taiwan Arts and Culture Exchange Year Series The exhibition features 30 pieces from the Canadian Indigenous Art Centre and is the first time items from the Centre have been exhibited in Asia.
