Nan Ying International Folklore Festival Returns to Tainan, International Folk Performing Groups Bring Diverse Cultures to Tainan

After six years, the highly anticipated Nan Ying International Folklore Festival returns to Tainan from Oct. 5 to Oct. 13, 2024. The city welcomed 21 folk performing groups from 18 countries around the world, including Japan, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Mongolia, Italy, Nepal, New Zealand, Poland, Chile, Puerto Rico, Bulgaria, and Paraguay, and featured 15 well-known domestic performing companies to ignite this major cultural event in Tainan.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che said that in addition to offering a wonderful opportunity for different nations to present their cultures, the 2024 Nan Ying International Folklore Festival carries historical significance as the event welcomes friends from all over the world after the pandemic. After thanking all participating performance groups, the Mayor stressed that this is a very rare opportunity where you get to see so many unique traditional songs and dances from worldwide at one venue and sincerely invited the Taiwanese public to the event. The Folklore Festival is expected to once again highlight Tainan as an important stage for global cultural exchanges and we look forward to more cross-nation interactions and collaborations as we continue to promote the development of culture and art.

Tainan City’s Cultural Affairs Bureau remarked that the Nan Ying International Folklore Festival has become a solid platform on which different global cultures interact and connect. This year’s festival features a rich array of highlights, including the Akita Kantō Festival, one of the three major festivals of Tohoku, Japan. Local visitors can experience the charm of traditional Japanese festivals without traveling abroad. Furthermore, Paraguay, Chile, and Algeria participated in the Nan Ying International Folklore Festival for the first time this year, making this event more diverse and exciting.
