Tainan 400 Agricultural Landscape Festival Officially Opens, Mayor Invites All to Experience The Local Agricultural and Fishery Culture

The Tainan 400 Agricultural Landscape Festival, organized by the Tainan City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, was officially launched on October 19 at the Tsung Yeh Arts and Cultural Center. The Festival features six large outdoor installation artworks that combine the local agricultural and fishery culture with modern art creation. At the opening ceremony, Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che invited citizens to come appreciate the beautiful works as well as the cool autumn weather and learn more about Tainan’s agriculture history.

After mentioning this year is the year of Tainan 400, Mayor Huang remarked that while Tainan is now known for its technology industries, the city was an important hub for the agriculture and fishery industries in the past. He thanked the artists for sharing their artworks at former sugar refineries, seaside fishing ports, and fruit and vegetable trade centers so that the public can know more about Tainan’s history and welcomed everyone to visit the Tainan 400 Agricultural Landscape Festival.

Following the theme “All Living Beings”, the Tainan 400 Agricultural Landscape Festival features pieces that tell stories between the agriculture/fishery industries and the land. Visitors can fully experience the vitality of Tainan’s land through artwork inspired by the early irrigation systems, the introduction of fruits and produce to modern day sustainable fishery practices. Curator Fang Xu-Jie pointed out the theme is expressed through six large installation art pieces that interpret the abundance and flow of life between all living beings on Earth. The artists cleverly integrated the agricultural and fishery elements with the vitality of the land in their works to present how the agriculture and fishery industries can co-exist in harmony with the environment and encourage visitors to think about environmental sustainability issues as they enjoy the art.
