Mayor’s Remarks:
1. Are there any better ways to prevent mango pests? An area in Pingtung County that produces mangos has been listed by the central government as eligible for natural disaster subsidies. As the supply of Pingtung mangos is expected to drop this year, I would like to ask concerned departments to seize this opportunity and promote mangos grown in Tainan. Because of the public’s support, China’s ban on Taiwan pineapples did not impact local pineapple prices. The municipal government has already placed many orders for pineapples as official gifts. These orders have yet to be completed. Thus, I would like to ask the Police Department, Fire Department, and Economic Development Bureau to replace these pineapple orders with mango orders so as to stabilize mango prices. I urge the Agriculture Bureau to ensure the traceability of produce. To ensure quality produce, a list of vendors that supply poor quality produce will be announced.
2. In light of the unfortunate construction accident that happened at the construction site for a public parking lot in the city, concerned bureaus should pay particular attention to industrial and labor safety for public construction projects that they oversee. I would like to ask the Labor Affairs Bureau to enhance workplace safety and labor safety inspections.
