Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 605th Municipal Administrative Meeting Mayor’s remarks 8/1/2023

Mayor’s Remarks:
1.    The prompt completion of post-typhoon clean-up is crucial to showcase the municipal government's efficiency in restoring our city after weather disasters. A swift and high-quality restoration process not only benefits epidemic prevention but also enhances our urban landscapes and public perception. Particularly, with dengue fever prevention in mind, we must address the aftermath of the recent typhoon. In the past few days, Tainan has experienced torrential rain during early afternoons due to the typhoon's convection. Hence, it is of utmost importance for everyone to inspect their surroundings and take necessary measures, such as emptying, brushing, and cleaning containers or areas that accumulate water, especially at construction sites and rooftops. I request the Public Health Bureau and Environmental Protection Bureau to conduct thorough inspections and impose fines where necessary. As we approach late August, when schools are set to reopen, the Bureau of Education should prioritize completing cleaning tasks on campuses before the start of the new semester. Moreover, once summer programs conclude, we should intensify efforts to ensure campus security and maintain cleanliness.
2.    The municipal government's outstanding performance, surpassing all other municipalities, and securing ten medals at this year's Sustainability Action Awards is a testament to the hard work put in by all departments involved. I extend my gratitude to each team member for their dedication and efforts. Building on this remarkable foundation, the municipal government remains committed to assisting residents in tackling the challenges posed by extreme weather. Our vision is to advance Tainan's development as a sustainable city and pursue a net-zero emissions goal with even greater determination. To achieve net zero emissions, we recognize the significance of developing public bicycles, parking lots, and other essential infrastructure. These elements serve as vital platforms and tools in our journey towards sustainability. I urge the Environmental Protection Bureau to continue assessing the municipal government's carbon reduction measures and quotas, and further, to seek carbon credit certification. In addition, I call upon all departments to engage in active counseling and guidance for both the public and private sectors in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
3.    The Cultural Affairs Bureau should ensure that the renovation for Chikan Cultural Park is completed on schedule and to a high standard of quality.
