Major’s Remarks:
1. Last year, Tainan City grappled with a severe dengue fever epidemic, imposing a heavy toll on both its populace and finances. Exhaustion was widespread among colleagues in various bureaus and departments, alongside village chiefs and government volunteers. Substantial funds were channeled into control measures, with over 21,000 reported cases recorded. Consequently, it is crucial to acknowledge the lessons learned from this challenging period and intensify our efforts to prevent and control dengue fever this year. The alarming surge of dengue outbreaks in other countries underscores the urgency of our preparedness. Taking proactive steps, the city government initiated preemptive measures last month. These included monitoring ovitrap surveillance data in high-risk areas, conducting outdoor pesticide spraying, eliminating stagnant water in containers, and inspecting drainage systems. Furthermore, the collaboration with physicians from various clinics as case reporters enhances our surveillance network. These proactive measures have been implemented in anticipation of the looming threat of dengue fever. Through a steadfast commitment to comprehensive prevention and control strategies and concerted collective efforts, we aim to curtail the spread of dengue fever effectively within our city.
2. The upcoming regular session of the Tainan City Council is scheduled to commence on April 19. All bureaus and departments are urged to stay abreast of business data and project progress. It is imperative that each bureau and department proactively assess whether the issues repeatedly raised during previous regular and extraordinary sessions have been addressed, resolved, or improved. Government and council liaison personnel are tasked with fulfilling their duties of communication with council members. This includes actively clarifying facts, embracing suggestions, and adhering to the responsibilities of civil servants. Furthermore, they are encouraged to foster horizontal connections with the Department of Information and International Relations, as well as other bureaus and departments, to facilitate communication.
3. The Civil Affairs Bureau is tasked with requesting all district offices to inventory any abandoned, idle, or underused public land located in densely populated areas within their jurisdiction.
