Minutes of Tainan City Government’s 566th Municipal Administrative Meeting 10/25/2022

Announcements
1.    The Water Resources Bureau’s report on the strategies and outcome of employing water treatment and flood prevention measures to protect coastal tribes—using Beimen District and Syuejia District as examples (refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s Remarks:
(1)     In 2016, Beimen District and Syuejia District exhibited flooding with merely 90 milliliters of rain over a span of three hours. Now, flooding occurs in neither district even when precipitation exceeds 150 milliliters. This result indicates that the two districts are more resilient now in torrential rains. Based on the report, a total of NTD $580 million worth of water treatment projects have been completed by the municipal government, and NTD $750 million worth of projects are in progress. On the one hand, we should proactively seek support from the central government; on the other hand, we should ensure that ongoing projects are completed on schedule while adhering to quality standards. This year’s flood season is coming to an end. We should accelerate extant projects during the dry season to ensure that flood-prone areas are comprehensively protected before the next flood season arrives. I thank the Water Resources Bureau for its excellent work.
(2)     A variety of infrastructure projects are involved in water treatment. I ask the Water Resources Bureau to communicate with the Bureau of Transportation, Agriculture Bureau, Bureau of Land Administration, and Public Works Bureau prior to starting construction projects. Please ensure that roads are not dug up repeatedly. Repetitions in construction or a waste of resources should be prevented.
2.    The Police Department’s report on raising fraud awareness and cracking down on fraud in Tainan(refer to written sources for details)
Decision: Approved for reference filing
Mayor’s Remarks:
(1)     Cracking down on fraud is a major focus of Tainan City Government and municipalities nationwide. By cracking down on fraud, we are able to reduce property losses for citizens. The municipal government has set up diverse defenses by collaborating with farmers’ associations, financial institutions, convenience stores, and post offices. The objective is to unravel schemes on the frontline before citizens fall for scams.
(2)     The government should collaborate with civic groups to further enhance citizens’ awareness of fraud. I ask the Bureau of Civil Affairs, Labor Bureau, and the Indigenous Peoples Affairs Commission the Indigenous Peoples Affairs Commission to collaborate with the Police Department and incorporate scam awareness into people’s daily lives.
